Veneer FAQs
Our dentist answers the questions patients ask most before getting a crown.

Do veneers require removing tooth enamel?
Yes, a small amount of enamel is removed from the front and sides of the tooth so the veneer can sit comfortably, which means the treatment is not reversible. Dr. Reem explains what to expect before any preparation begins.
How long do porcelain veneers last?
Porcelain veneers are strong and long-lasting, but they may chip, crack, wear down, or loosen over time and need to be re-bonded, repaired, or replaced. Good home care and regular checkups can help them hold up well.
Can I get veneers if I grind or clench my teeth?
Clenching or grinding can put extra stress on veneers, and the ADA notes that veneers may not be a good choice for patients who clench, grind, or have a deep overbite. Dr. Reem will evaluate your bite before recommending them.
How do I care for my veneers?
Brush with fluoride toothpaste twice a day and clean between your teeth daily, since you can still get cavities around a veneer. Avoid biting your nails or chewing hard objects, wear a mouthguard for sports, and be cautious with coffee, tea, and red wine.
Does insurance cover veneers?
Veneers are considered cosmetic dentistry, so they may not be covered unless they are deemed medically necessary. Our team can review your options before treatment, and we offer flexible financing through CareCredit and Cherry.
The Veneer Process Step-by-Step
Strong, natural-looking and built to last
Creating a natural-looking smile takes clinical precision and an eye for detail, and it begins with a comprehensive exam. When several concerns overlap, veneers may be one part of a broader smile makeover, and teeth whitening may be a simpler first step when stains respond to it. Here is what you can expect as Dr. Reem guides you through the process.
Step 1 Smile Design Consultation
Dr. Reem begins with a detailed consultation, listening to your goals and evaluating your facial features, lip line, and smile to plan a natural-looking result that complements your appearance.
Step 2 Conservative Preparation
A small amount of enamel is gently removed from the front and sides of each tooth so your veneers sit flush rather than looking bulky. Dr. Reem aims to preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible.
Step 3 The Temporary Phase
An impression or digital scan of your teeth is sent to a dental lab to craft your permanent veneers. While they are being made, you may wear temporary veneers so you can get used to the look and fit.
Step 4 Final Bonding
Once your permanent porcelain veneers are ready, Dr. Reem checks the fit and shape, makes any adjustments, and bonds them to your teeth. It may take a few days to get used to them, so let us know if your bite does not feel right.
Porcelain Veneers to Refresh Your Smile
Chipped edges, stubborn stains, small gaps, or slightly uneven teeth can leave you holding back your smile in photos or conversations. A veneer offers a way to address several of these concerns at once, without reshaping your entire bite.
As part of our cosmetic dentistry services at Harmony Cosmetic Dentistry and Implants, Dr. Reem Alramli, DMD, designs custom porcelain veneers, thin, tooth-colored shells bonded to the front of your teeth to change their color, shape, and spacing. The result can be a natural-looking smile built around your own features rather than a one-size-fits-all template.
What Can Veneers Correct?
Veneers are most often used on visible front teeth, so we start by looking at which concerns are affecting your smile most.
Chips and Wear
Teeth that have chipped or worn down over the years can look shorter or less smooth than they once did. A veneer can restore natural length and edge, refreshing the tooth’s appearance.
Severe Discoloration and Staining
Some stains run too deep for traditional whitening to fully correct, whether from certain medications or past trauma to a tooth. A veneer can cover the discoloration, giving you a brighter, more even smile.
Spacing and Minor Misalignment
Small gaps and slightly crooked or crowded teeth can often be addressed with a veneer rather than months of orthodontic treatment. This may offer a faster path for patients who are not dealing with more significant alignment issues.
Protects Weak Teeth
Covers cracked or heavily filled teeth so they do not break further.
Easy to Care For
Brush and floss as normal. No special cleaning routine needed.
Natural Look
Porcelain shade-matched to your smile, so it blends right in.
After a Root Canal
Seals and strengthens a tooth once a root canal is complete.
Digital Precision
Digital X-rays and impressions for an accurate, comfortable fit.
Built to Last
With good care, a crown can last 15 years or more.
Why Choose Professional Porcelain Veneers?
High-quality dental porcelain is designed to mimic the light-reflecting quality of natural tooth enamel, which is part of why a well-made veneer can blend in with the rest of your smile. The American Dental Association describes porcelain veneers as strong, long-lasting, and natural-looking, and they tend to resist stains better than composite alternatives.
Veneers are also not reversible, because a small amount of enamel is removed to place them, which is why the ADA says irreversible procedures should only be performed by licensed, trained dentists. Any decay or gum disease needs to be treated first, and Dr. Reem can coordinate with our periodontist when gum health is a concern.
Signs You May Need a Crown
